The Children’s Hunger Project

Thanks to over 2,000 community volunteers, we packaged 110,000 ready to eat and ready to cook meals for Brevard County children and families distributed this summer.

On Sunday, June 2, Face of Change, The Children’s Hunger Project, United Way and Brevard Hunger Alliance/Project HUNGER joined efforts to assemble over 105,000 meals and food packages. This food will have a significant impact over the summer on the malnutrition and hunger problem with young kids in Brevard County! Volunteers assembled over 100,000 rice and bean meals and over 6,000 complete packages of food such as those provided each weekend to kids at elementary schools. None of the food will leave our county and will be distributed to Brevard kids over the summer. Thanks to each and every one of you who joined our efforts at this awesome event! Florida Facial Plastic Surgeon Provides 105,000 Meals for Needy Children and Families in Brevard

Melbourne, Fl. (October 8, 2012) – Melbourne, Florida – Dr. Ross Clevens, Brevard’s Board Certified Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Specialist hosted the third “Face of Change” food-packaging event on Saturday, October 6th at Florida Air Academy. A record 750 volunteers joined Dr. Clevens, his staff and family to give their time and help package nearly 105,000 meals for the hungriest children and families in Brevard County. The volunteers included friends of the practice, staff and students from Florida Air Academy, and local business and community members. In one day, our community transformed almost 15,000 pounds of raw material- rice, pasta, soy protein, cheese, beans and vitamins- that arrived from Iowa via tractor trailer truck into over 100,000 individually packaged meals that Second Harvest food bank accepted in donation from Face of Change. Our meals filled two Second Harvest trucks! In addition, we received almost 1,000 pounds of food and other items that were donated to the Women’s Center and The Children’s Hunger Project. “This day reminds me how thankful I am for all that we have and that we have the ability to help those in our own community who are less fortunate,” said Dr. Clevens, host of the event.  In addition to hosting local food packaging events for Face of Change, Dr. Clevens travels to Tanzania in eastern Africa twice a year on a medical mission trip to help those in need.
